Marta Stemberger, MA, Founder/Owner, President, and CLO (Chief Language Officer) of Arinna, Inc. Language Services, is a native Slovenian who has been living, studying, and working in New York City since 1992. She earned her BA in Liberal Arts in 2000, and MA in Liberal Studies in 2003, both at The New School, with a focus on women studies through the lens of history and sociology, and was a teaching assistant for undergraduate courses in women’s intellectual history. Her roots, however, are in modern dance; she was trained at the Alvin Ailey and Martha Graham schools, and is currently enrolled in the full-time training of the movement art eurythmy at Eurythmy Spring Valley.

 

Ms. Stemberger has over 15 years of experience as a linguist, and is fluent in English, Slovene, Croatian, Bosnian, Serbian, with a good comprehension of French. Through her work, Ms. Stemberger acquired expertise as a translator, editor, interpreter in medical, pharmaceutical, and legal fields, as well as diplomatic affairs; through her studies and experience, she acquired proficiency in humanities, social sciences, performing and visual arts, fashion/costume design and handicrafts.

·         Approved by the Slovene Ministry of Education to teach Slovene in USA, Fall 2009-2011

 

·         Translated several drafts and the final version of the new Slovene Mining Law into English, and managed a team of 10 linguists, 2009-2011

 

·         Interpreted (consecutive) from English into Slovene and Slovene into English the high level dialogue between Dr. Asha-Rose Migiro, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, and Mrs. Marjeta Cotman, Minister of Labour, Family, and Social Affairs of Slovenia on the occasion of the signing of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, New York, March 2007

 

·         Interpreted (simultaneous) into English the Slovene speech by Dr. Janez Drnovsek, the President of the Republic of Slovenia at the 58th, 59th and 60th Sessions of the General Assembly of the United Nations, New York, 2003-2005

 

·         Interpreted (simultaneous) from English into Slovene the 2nd International Parliamentary Union conference at the United Nations, New York, 2005

 

·         Interpreted (consecutive) depositions and court trials in pharmaceutical patent litigations from English into Slovene and Slovene into English, and prepared a related glossary for a team of translators, 2003-2006

 

·         Quality reviewed Slovene translation of the English articles for the Slovene edition of National Geographic Magazine, 2006

 

·         Translated financial documents from French into Slovenian for Natixis, Renault, Veolia Environment, Franklin Templeton, 2006-2010

 

·         Interpreted (consecutive) interview for the asylum case from Serbian into English and English into Serbian, and translated the supporting documents from Serbian into English, 2008

 

·         Interpreted (consecutive) hearings for an international commercial arbitration case from English into Croatian and Croatian into English, 2006

 

·        Translated subtitles for a documentary film on Srebrenica from Croatian and Bosnian into English, 2006-2007
