Marta Stemberger, MA, Founder/Owner and CLO (Chief Language Officer) of Arinna Inc Language Services, is a native Slovenian who has been living, studying, and working in New York City for the last 16.5 years. She earned her MA in Liberal Studies at The New School with a focus on women studies through the lens of history and sociology, and was a teaching assistant for undergraduate courses in women’s intellectual history. As a linguist, Ms. Stemberger frequently interprets for Slovene diplomats at the United Nations. Her roots, however, are in modern dance; she was trained at the Alvin Ailey and Martha Graham schools.

 

Ms. Stemberger has over 13 years of experience as a linguist, and is fluent in English, Slovene, Croatian, Bosnian, Serbian, with a good comprehension of French. Through her work, Ms. Stemberger acquired expertise as translator, editor, interpreter in medical, pharmaceutical, and legal fields, as well as diplomatic affairs; through her studies and experience, she acquired proficiency in humanities, social sciences, performing and visual arts, fashion/costume design and handicrafts.

·        Interpreted (simultaneous) from English into Slovene the 2nd International Parliamentary Union conference at the United Nations, New York, 2005

 

·        Interpreted (consecutive) depositions and court trials in pharmaceutical patent litigations from English into Slovene and Slovene into English, and prepared a related glossary for a team of translators, 2003-2006

 

·        Quality reviewed Slovene translation of the English articles for the Slovene edition of National Geographic Magazine, 2006

 

·        Interpreted (consecutive) interview for the asylum case from Serbian into English and English into Serbian, and translated the supporting documents from Serbian into English, 2008

 

·        Interpreted (consecutive) hearings for an international commercial arbitration case from English into Croatian and Croatian into English, 2006

 

·        Translated subtitles for a documentary film on Srebrenica from Croatian and Bosnian into English, 2006-2007
